Quentin Tarantino

While the British critic Barry Norman described his work as “a dazzling piece of work—gloriously funny, unpredictable and original”, the American critic Mary Kenny wrote in the Daily Mirror: “disgusting, violent, repellent, dangerous to young and unformed minds, childish, irrational, horrible, agonizing, and distressingly like something out of a Nazi nightmare where human beings are subjected to every degradation just for the hell of it”. Nevertheless, these two seem to have forgotten that everyone has their own tastes. The target of their criticism, director Quentin Tarantino, confirms himself that if you look beneath the surface of his films, beyond the innumerable deaths and all of the blood, you will find a strict sense of morality and complete faith in the law of honor. A very sincere declaration from Tarantino, considering his astrological portrait.

He was born on March 27, 1963 in Knoxville, Tennessee, under the sign of courageous and aggressive Aries. His ascendant is found in the sign of Leo, eager to display himself, and his Moon in the sign of Taurus, eternally seeking stability. The aggressiveness of his sign, Aries, is reinforced by the position of Mars, ruler of his Sun, located in the sign of flamboyant Leo and high in the sky at the time of his birth. This indicates that Quentin Tarantino chose his ideal profession, where he could use his suppressed aggressiveness in a constructive manner. Otherwise, his easily irritable character would have pushed him into frequent arguments and fights. Venus, planet of pleasure, as well as stern Saturn are found in the sign of original and eccentric Aquarius. Saturn is located in the part of the sky that rules relations with the public (the 7th house). The Moon, symbol of the mother, women and popularity, is found towards the Zenith in discordant relations with aggressive Mars. Whether or not he wanted to, he would become well known, even for bad reasons. People would perceive him as an original person, an eccentric. The Moon close to the Zenith indicates that women would be most helpful to Tarantino in his work. The women that he met in his life would be decisive for his career, beginning with the first woman of his life, his mother. The powerful embrace of the Sun, symbol of the ego, and Jupiter, planet of prosperity, and Mercury, planet of the intellect, reveals that Tarantino would easily obtain money for producing his projects.

The slow unfolding of his destiny confirms what the stars prophesized from the moment of his birth. The product of his mother's youthful error, she herself hardly past childhood, Quentin received his first name after the character of Quint, played by Burt Reynolds in the film Gunsmoke. It has not yet been made public what happened to his father or where his grandparents are. We only know that when Quentin was two years old, he and his mother moved to Los Angeles. As the stars predicted, his mother was the one who took him to the movies for the first time. At first sight, Quentin was enchanted by the moving images on the big screen. Instead of going to school, he would devote hours of his time to the magic of film. However, what pushed Tarantino to leave high school will undoubtedly remain a mystery. Perhaps it was the impatience of an Arian who wants to do everything at once, his love for video and film, the feeling that he was wasting his time with things that were not important to him or perhaps even defying authority, due to the fact that, according to him, he never met his father.

1985 Whatever the case, at the age of 22, he found a job as a salesclerk at Video Archives in Manhattan Beach, California. There, he could watch movies all day long, talk to his co-workers about movies and recommend movies to clients. This turning point in his life took place in 1985, when Jupiter, planet of good fortune, transited his house of public and official recognition (7th). During the course of this period, Quentin had enough time and inspiration to begin writing his screenplays. He called his first screenplay True Romance. He would later sell it for 50,000 dollars. Thus he accomplished the prophesy of the stars, according to which he would easily obtain money from his sponsors and attract the attention of influential people towards his work. On one condition, that he loved his work. A few years later, in 1988, he wrote his second script, Natural Born Killers which he sold to Oliver Stone. 1988 Jupiter then transited his house of reputation and career (10th). The name of his next film, for which he was the screenwriter and director, was a neologism of the badly pronounced title Au revoir les enfants and Straw Dogs by Sam Peckinpah. It was called Reservoir Dogs. Quentin Tarantino was then considered the heir to Martin Scorsese.

Destiny would show Tarantino that the present is the result of our past acts. In 1978, at the age of 15, stern Saturn passed through his house of self (1st) and his house of money (2nd) and activated unpredictable Uranus. Young Quentin found himself in an unpleasant situation. He was caught red-handed in a store trying to steal a book by Elmore Leonard, The Switch. This was the same exact novel that inspired his insolent Pulp Fiction, a film that catapulted him into the stratosphere of famous directors. He won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival and the Oscar for best original screenplay in 1994. At the same time, the Sun, symbol of self accomplishment, touched his Moon in directions, symbol of popularity, in the house of reputation and career (10th).

Perhaps it is the warrior-spirited Aries inside of him that pushed him to be strongly influenced by the morality and rules of the samurais that appear in his films. However, Venus, indicator of feelings, located in the sign of altruistic Aquarius, as well as his Moon in the sign of cordial Taurus, make him a compassionate man who invests much in his friendships. Thus, in Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino rescued a John Travolta who had already been forgotten by the public. It is equally remarkable that he always calls upon the same group of actors for his films. Because of the preeminence of proud and glory-seeking Leo at the moment of his birth, he always appears in at least one of the scenes in his films, just like Alfred Hitchcock, another vain Leo in the world of film.

While some people are horrified by the violence in his films, Tarantino calmly responds:

“For some people the violence is a mountain they can't climb. That's OK. It's not their cup of tea. But I am affecting them. I wanted that scene to be disturbing.”

Revealing thus that the world is indeed violent, he adds:

“My feeling is the word ‘nigger’ is probably the most volatile word in the English language. The minute any word has that much power, as far as I'm concerned, everyone on the planet should scream it. No word deserves that much power. I'm not afraid of it. That's the only way I know how to explain it.”

Whether this is an intelligent way of justifying his racism or whether he truly thinks this, nobody really knows. Nevertheless, even though it seems eccentric, his statement is very true.

Whatever the case, one must not forget that Quentin Tarantino brought original ideas to an era of Hollywood that had grown inert by repeating what already existed. Original and eccentric, just how God created him, Tarantino is one of the rare people who have written their own biography. In the space where one writes their date of death, he wrote: “I still chase it.”
