Céline Dion
Blessed with a sublime voice that can cover five octaves, a voice that critiques consider to be a biological miracle, she breaks all barriers. She also breaks the language barrier, and in just a few years became what she always wanted to be, the greatest pop star of the musical firmament. Celine Dion was born on March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Canada, as the last of Adhemar and Therese Dion’s fourteen children. With her Sun and Moon in the sign of Aries, always ready for competition, and her Ascendant in the sign of theatrical and glory-loving Leo, the stars show she is a person who has an innate need to be the first and best in what she does. She is also a person gifted with an inexhaustible amount of energy, whose self esteem and emotional stability grow in proportion to her celebrity and her status in society. Although her biographers confirm that she was always surrounded by love and music during her childhood, as she was born into a family of musicians, the stars confirm the opposite. More precisely, at the time of her birth, the close contact between the Sun, symbol of the father, and stern Saturn, as well as the close contact between the Moon, symbol of the mother, with aggressive Mars, indicate that she was a child without a childhood. Her mother had the dominant role at home. In her education, emphasis was mostly placed on duty and material values. For this reason, she probably understood early on that she would have to fight alone in order to get what mattered to her. Nevertheless, she had to become exceptionally responsible and disciplined from her youngest years in order to be able to reach her great ambitions. These are the two central elements of her character. In one of her interviews, Celine Dion said “I consider that determination, professionalism and discipline are my best qualities.” A true description of the essence of her personality in only three words. Her horoscope confirms this. The close contact of the Sun, symbol of the ego, and stern Saturn in the sign of the warrior-spirited Aries, indicates that Celine Dion is a determined, disciplined and ambitious person. This is reinforced by the strong link between the Moon in Aries and Mars, in the house of career (10th). Furthermore, the Moon is the symbol of the soul’s needs. Mars the conqueror is the ruler of Aries. In other words, the natal chart of Celine Dion could have been a soldier’s natal chart. What makes her a singer is the close connection between Venus, planet of art, and cheerful Mercury, in the sign of creative Pisces. These give her artistic talents and a sense for show-biz. Like the cherry on top of the cake of her career, we see the Ascendant located in the sign of Leo, greedy for applause, and musical Neptune in the house of creativity (5th). For what concerns her private life, people who have the Sun and Saturn in close contact, as is the case for Celine Dion, often seek a replacement for the role of their father in partners markedly much older than they are. In her interviews, Celine Dion proudly tells how her family traveled long and far across Quebec, her region of birth, playing folk music. She also talks with pride about how her parents then bought a bar-restaurant, where she began to sing when she was five years old. At the age of 12, she already knew what she wanted to do with her life. She told her mother that she wanted to become a professional singer, and her mother wrote the words for the song Ce n’était qu’un rêve and Celine’s brother wrote the music. After Celine sang and recorded this song, they sent the tape to Rene Angelil, a manager in Montreal. However, Angelil would certainly have not listened to this tape if Michel Dion, Celine’s brother, had not called him to remind him to do it. Of course, Rene wanted to meet and listen to Celine live. He then promised her parents that he would make her a huge star in Canada and France. He was so sure of Celine’s success that he mortgaged his own house to finance her first two albums. He was not mistaken. His minor protégée produced a return on the invested money in just a short time and she quickly rose to the peak of glory thanks to her voice and her songs. In just a short time, Celine was heard across the world, from America to Japan and from England to Australia. Her albums sold and still sell millions of copies, while the demand for tickets to her concerts in large stadiums continues to grow. This is confirmed by the stars in her horoscope. Jupiter, planet of happiness, is found in the house of money (2nd). The Sun, indicator of self accomplishment, and serious Saturn rise at the Zenith, one in the house of foreign lands and grand voyages (9th), and the other in the house of reputation and career (10th). In that same house lies the Moon, indicator of popularity, and energetic Mars. The Moon, located at a critical degree of Aries, in the house of career, shows her need to always act quickly at the professional level, out of fear of losing time. This is perhaps why at the beginning of her career, when reporters asked about her private life, she succinctly responded: “I am focused on my career, I always travel, I think of nothing else.” She was probably being sincere, for the need of every Arian is first and foremost to satisfy their ambitions and to prove their worth. Nevertheless, the year 1988 and the Dublin Eurovision contest were crucial for the course of events to come. At twenty years old, Celine had a new image, a new hairdo, a harmonious dentition. In Switzerland, she performed the song written by Swiss authors Nella Martinetti and Atilla Şereftuğ, Ne partez pas sans moi. She won after a fierce battle, with only one vote more than the second place contestant. What’s more, that night in Dublin was also a turning point in Celine Dion’s love life. She had already been in love with Rene for three years, and she kissed him for the first time. Thus began a relationship that still endures today. This took place when the Sun met her Moon in directions, while Jupiter went across her sign and her house of reputation and career. While the violins play The Colour of My Love, the song in which Celine acknowledges: “Rene, I kept our dream in my heart for years. But it is so strong that I cannot keep it to myself. So, let me color the truth, to show what I feel. Rene, you are the color of my love...”
While the violins played her song, Celine and Rene pronounced the fateful ‘I do’ in the Notre Dame basilica of old Montreal. This took place in 1994 and was the most extravagant wedding in Canadian history. It cost 500,000 US dollars. 1994 was also the year in which Jupiter, planet of happiness, went through her house of love (5th) and touched Neptune, planet of illusions. Pluto and the North Node, responsible for karma and karmic relationships, did the same thing. This shows that Celine truly experienced her wedding as something surreal, like a fairytale, like the fulfillment of a childhood dream. A little later, she realized her second greatest dream. She sang at the Olympia in Paris. “After ten years at a pace that a donkey could not bear”, as a music critic wrote, she planned on retiring from the stage in 1997 to devote herself to her husband and become a mother. She then complained: “I cannot live a normal life as the gardener does, who does not care about anything but tomatoes. I cannot wake up in the morning and stay in bed, because I feel terribly bad. I would be very happy to get bored again.”
However, Destiny led her to receive offers to sing with her idol, Barbra Streisand, as well as Luciano Pavarotti and the Bee Gees, to sing the theme song of the film Titanic, My Heart Will Go On, and to receive even more awards in 1998 and 1999. This took place when Jupiter again passed through her sign and her house of career. In the same manner, Saturn, enforcer of destiny, transited the sign of Aries. However, Saturn does not reward people in advance, but only after a number of torments. Saturn provoked some truly stressful situations in Celine Dion’s life. Her happiness was disturbed towards the middle of 1999 when doctors diagnosed a throat tumor in her husband. Precisely at the moment when Saturn crossed her natal moon, symbol of love and feelings, it brought about the biggest emotional suffering. The goal was to teach her not to attach her soul to earthly things, neither glory, nor money. To love, but to do so without building dependent relationships with those whom she loved. During these dramatic moments in her life, Celine Dion took a break from her tour, stayed at her husband’s side during his treatment and renounced the idea of becoming a mother. And perhaps this illness was not so much a blow from Destiny as it appeared, but a simple wake-up call that was intended to remind Celine of the true value of her existence. “Rene is much more than my husband and my manager. He is my life, the reason for my existence, the center of my world,” she then said. Considering the nature and gravity of Rene’s illness, they decided to freeze his sperm so that they could try to have a child in better times. After an operation and an arduous treatment, Rene finally healed, to almost everyone’s surprise. Then, to show her love for her husband, Celine organized the renewal of their marriage vows on January 5, 2000 in Las Vegas. The ceremony was done in the style of one thousand and one nights. As Angelil is Syrian, they wore traditional Syrian clothes. Then, Celine Dion retired from the stage to lead an ordinary life, spent time with her husband, played golf and tried to realize her third dream, to become a mother. The birth of her son Rene-Charles in January 2001, after several attempts at artificial insemination, is the proof that miracles are possible, under the condition that one truly believes in them. Although Celine joyfully told reporters that she would put her musical career to the side so that she could build her career as a mother, Destiny would again decide otherwise. In 2003, Jupiter crossed her Ascendant and passed through her second house, thus opening the door to positive changes and new beginnings. In March 2003, she signed one of the most lucrative contracts ever signed by a singer. She was hired to sing five times a week, for three years, at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, for a salary of one hundred million dollars. Truly impressive fees, although many were skeptical because of the proportional risk of the amount. The high ticket price (from 90 to 200 dollars) pushed skeptics to say that the project would not last very long. However, it turns out that Celine Dion is a name that can easily fill a hall of 4,000 seats. Over the course of the first six months of 2005, she produced a figure of 43 million dollars, meaning 330,000 tickets sold. Caesar’s Palace extended her contract to the end of 2006. Because of the excellent financial results, the contract was again extended until December 15, 2007. The revenue generated during this period remains a jealously guarded secret. Insiders say that it is actually a sum without precedent in show business, while malicious tongues insinuate that Celine was obligated to extend her contract in order to pay the enormous debts that her gambling husband racked up at Caesar’s Palace. She formally denied these rumors, saying that Rene only took one risk in his life, when he put everything on her career. Like every Arian who always has a need to conquer another peak and to go forward, she didn’t stop. Towards the middle of February 2008, she began a world tour, which means that she will visit 25 countries and sing in 100 cities, promoting her new album, Taking Chances. The show must go on, right?
